Bulls Trade Taj Gibson, Doug McDermott To OKC For Cameron Payne

The Chicago Bulls have traded Taj Gibson, Doug McDermott and a 2018 second-round draft pick to Oklahoma City in exchange for Cameron Payne, Joffrey Lauvernge and Anthony Morrow.

Gibson will now give OKC a veteran power forward in the starting lineup with rookie Domantas Sabonis moving to a reserve role. He fits perfectly with a defensive-minded OKC team.

Payne, a 6’3 point guard, was the centerpiece of the deal for the Bulls. Payne was selected by OKC with the #14 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, and was the primary backup to Russell Westbrook.

Gibson is set to become a free agent this summer.

The Bulls are hoping that Payne is their point guard for the present and future. He is averaging 5.3 points and 2.0 assists on the season while shooting 33.1% from the field and 30.8% behind the three-point arc.
